Hello, everyone! Here are a couple of administrative notices.

First: I’m filling in as editor while Dan Eldridge is on vacation for a week. I hope Dan enjoys his vacation, and I will do my best to make sure there will still be a blog when he gets back!

Second: I will again be attending GenCon in Indianapolis this year, driving up from Springfield, Missouri to Indianapolis to spend the weekend after next among gamers and their friends. I last attended the convention for TeleRead two years ago, and I’m looking forward to being there again.

You might not expect it, given the convention’s gaming-focused reputation, but GenCon has a pretty extensive writers workshop that looks like it will have some very useful topics and sessions. My friends Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon are the writer guests of honor, and I look forward to seeing them in person again; Mike Stackpole will be there, too. I hope and expect to have the chance to interview them again.

gen-con-logoI also hope I’ll have the chance to meet some TeleRead readers. Given the thousands upon thousands of people who attend GenCon every year, the odds are pretty good at least some of you plan to go there. I ran into one TeleRead reader quite coincidentally at the end of the Michael Stackpole panel two years ago, but surely we can do better than that this year. Let me know in the comments, or via private email to robotech at the domain eyrie.org if you prefer, if you’ll be there and would like to meet up.

I planned my trip so I should have a bit of extra time coming and going, and it seems like a shame to waste the opportunity. Is anyone aware of any e-book-related matters on the road from Springfield to Indianapolis that I should check out on the way up or back? Let me know in the comments and I shall do my best to investigate.

I see that GenCon has decided to ditch the mobile app I mentioned last time I went, as it took up too much of GenCon’s software development resources. The convention has launched a mobile version of the GenCon website instead (accessible at the same URL as the regular one, using browser detection technology.) I gave it a try on my iPod Touch. It was a little tricky to use, but seemed to offer some decent possibilities for finding events. Will have to see how it goes.
