LeiCrimeThe latest Kindle World popped up last week with the Lei Crime Series.

The Lei Crime Series, written by Toby Neal, debuted on April 7. Kindle Worlds allow anyone to write stories within specific universes using characters already developed by the respective authors. The Lei Crime Kindle World kicked off with eight new stories.

Kindle Worlds helps writers (please read all the conditions first) earn money for their fan fiction by selling the stories through Amazon.

Amazon currently has nearly 40 Kindle Worlds, including G.I. Joe, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, The World of Kurt Vonnegut, and J.A. Konrath’s Jack Daniels and Associates.

The approval process is very discerning. Not every writer that submits a story for a world will get approval. The Vampire Diaries currently has the most stories with 179 written, followed by The Silo Saga (114), G.I. Joe (78) and Pretty Little Liars (50). There are some worlds that have just a handful of stories such as The Callaways, The Chronos Files and The Kathleen Turner Series, which all have fewer than five.

That leads me to wonder what the next Kindle Worlds should be – or rather, if you could pick any world to write for, what would it be?

When it comes to TV shows, there are some that would be absurdly popular in the fan fiction world. A quick browse through popular fan fiction websites immediately show the top picks. Personally, I would love to see a Supernatural world, and it’s already one of the top shows that gets written about through fan fiction. In fact, fanfiction.net boasts more than 100,000 Supernatural stories.

To me, some of the more intriguing TV shows that could make it to the Kindle Worlds would be Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel. Even though the series live on in comics, it would be interesting to read stories through a new lens.

When it comes to books, some of the easy answers are Harry Potter and Twilight. They would make for rather competitive and compelling stories from authors.

If you could have a new Kindle World pop up from any segment (movies, books, comics, TV shows), what world would you like to see next?
