You’re familiar with the saying “Go big or go home?” Well, it doesn’t exactly apply to the tablet market nowadays, but the tide could turn soon enough.
One of the biggest ongoing battles is for the small tab crown, with Google, Asus, Amazon, Apple, but also Acer fighting each other guns blazing. Meanwhile, the bigger throne remains in Cupertino, Calif., with only Samsung (timidly) trying to steal the 9.7-inch iPad’s thunder.
However, if we are to trust newly emerged online reports, Amazon is planning to spread its Fire instead of cooling it down. The next generation of the company’s Kindle Fires will reportedly include a 10-inch model, and not just any kind of slate.
The thing will allegedly sport a 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution 10.1-inch display. Which would result in a 299 ppi pixel density versus the iPad 4’s 264. The Nexus 10, on the other hand, has the exact same kind of screen, so it remains to be seen if this bigger Kindle Fire can gain a better foothold in the tab world than Google and Samsung’s beast.
Naturally, Amazon is not ready to ditch the 7- and 8.9-inch Fires either, meaning the family will welcome at least three new additions come next fall. The smaller third-gen Fires are expected to sport stunning displays with around 300 ppi as well, so there’s a lot to be excited for.
At the same time, we hope Amazon’s new strategy will not backfire, given its first slates have become crazy-popular mostly due to their extremely low price points.
