ebook spring cleaningI am on March break as of Friday, and that means it’s eBook spring cleaning time! I will be off work for two weeks, the the Beloved will still be working, so this is the time of year where I catch up on my various projects—I always feel a little guilty when he is working but I am not, so I try to be productive. This always seems like a good time of year to get my digital—and physical spaces spruced and tidied up! So what is on my to-do list this time around?

1) Order another Apple photo book. I had been waiting to order my 2014 book until after I saw how the 2013 one turned out. Now, I am ready to go ahead and order. First lesson learned: get the Beloved to send me some pictures first, since if I only use mine, I won’t be in the book! Second lesson learned: get it delivered to the Beloved’s work address, since Apple requires a signature and won’t let me pick it up.

2) Scan some teaching stuff into PDF format. I recently got a great app called Scannable which uses the iPad’s camera to save photos of documents. What’s helpful about it is that it seems pretty accurate in filtering out the background and saving just the page. I am hoping to use it to scan some of my teaching books so that I can easily access them. I have very limited cupboard space and some of my stuff is inaccessible. Also, a few of the books are falling apart a little! I have a stack of half a dozen that I want to convert over.

3) Clean up my Amazon wish list. I suspect that if I start Kindle publishing, Amazon will force me to convert to a .ca account; this means I will lose my wish lists, so I want to prune them down a little. I am going to download a sample of every book there, and if I like it and it’s under $5, I’ll buy it and be done.

4) Clean up my library wish list. I often go on topic jags and reserve a whole bunch of stuff. Some of it, I don’t need anymore. Some of it is probably decent, but I know I’ll never read it. Time to make some choices and prune the to-read pile a bit!

Other than that, I don’t plan to do much maintenance. I simplified my Calibre tags last year and deleted a whole bunch of freebies I likely will never read. I’ve been a lot choosier this year about what I have let into my library. All I need to do this year is tidy up the wish lists a bit, and then go read!

"I’m a journalist, a teacher and an e-book fiend. I work as a French teacher at a K-3 private school. I use drama, music, puppets, props and all manner of tech in my job, and I love it. I enjoy moving between all the classes and having a relationship with each child in the school. Kids are hilarious, and I enjoy watching them grow and learn. My current device of choice for reading is my Amazon Kindle Touch, but I have owned or used devices by Sony, Kobo, Aluratek and others. I also read on my tablet devices using the Kindle app, and I enjoy synching between them, so that I’m always up to date no matter where I am or what I have with me."
