It appears as if Archos is getting ready to unleash another Arnova-branded tablet, although they’re actually marketing this particular model as an e-reader. What exactly does that mean? According to a recent Liliputing post:

The Arnova GBook may look like a 7 inch Android tablet… because it is. In other words, you can use it to watch videos, play games, or perform other activities, but the device has a relatively slow processor, doesn’t include access to the Google Play Store, and will probably sell for a much lower price than most Android tablets.

Pricing hasn’t been set yet, but the Arnova GBook looks a lot like the Arnova 7 G3 tablet which sells for less than $120.

The Arnova GBook eReader will arrive running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the 7-inch display will have a resolution of 800 x 480. In addition, the GBook will have 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 1GB of RAM and a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor.

Archos is claiming that users can expect up to eight hours of battery life for for reading, and up to seven hours of battery life for video playback. Some of the other specs include a built-in microphone and speaker, a front-facing camera and mini-HDMI out. The reader will measure in at 7.7 x 4.6 x 0.45 inches and weigh in at 10.7 ounces. And while the tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich sounds like a perk, this one will unfortunately arrive without access to Google Play. Instead, it’ll come loaded with the Appslib app store.

There will, however, be some pre-installed apps, including the Aldiko eBook reader app. No word yet on a release date or pricing. But as Liliputing says, “If it’s priced as low or lower than the other Arnova G3 tablets, it will probably be much cheaper than the latest Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or Kobo tablets.”

  1. HMV’s early Christmas Turkey!
it lasts 1 hour (not a fault according to HMV) not 8hrs. also has no sound ,struggles even with the pre-installed software (Kart doesn’t work) and the OS locks up regularly.
It’s a waste of money as it is useless on all counts and no HMV refund. Whatever you do don’t buy one as a Christmas present, except for someone you don’t like.
