That’s a reasonable question to ask, authors, when you see an advertisement like this, offering you an online teleclass to “Think Like a Publisher,” courtesy of Randy Davila, president of Hampton Roads Publishing and Hierophant Publishing, and based on his book, also called “Think Like A Publisher: 33 Essential Tips to Write, Promote, & Sell Your Book.”

“Have You Written A Book? Or is there a book inside you waiting to come out?” the blurb asks. “If you want to know what it takes to be a successful author in today’s rapidly changing publishing world, this is your chance to learn from an insider!”

Apparently, Randy Davila has “published over 500 spiritual/metaphysical books.” He appears to have been in the business of coaching and hosting seminars for aspirant writers at least since 2011. You can find more information on him courtesy of Goodreads, here.

The course runs for four weeks and has an early bird fee of $149 and otherwise $159, including recordings of all classes. As fees for self-publishing tutorials go, I suppose this one isn’t too bad, and online does seem an ideal medium for such coaching activity. All the same, I might be worried that a tutorial course is so heavily promoted and marketed, for skills that you may not even need. In particular, much of the content appears geared towards traditional publishing, with self-publishing receiving far less attention.

Still, for those who might want it, there it is. Do you need it? Your call.
