nook_for_android.jpgBarnes & Noble have officially rolled out their eReader app for the Android platform. The app is called NOOK for Android and is available by way of the Android Market for devices running Android OS 1.6 or later.

The app seems to offer the features that you would expect to see in that you can read as well as browse and shop for ebooks from the Barnes & Noble eBookstore. The app also gives you access to any ebook in your personal Barnes & Noble library as well as keep those titles in sync across devices. Additionally, the NOOK for Android app also allows the user to take advantage of the Lend Me feature which is found on the hardware Nook.

  1. Wow! Definitely worth the wait. This might be one of the few “professional” applications I have used on Android (first impressions of course).

Perhaps, the best feature: this is the first book reader I’ve seen (lying Aldiko included) with a non-Android font selection (it comes with eight fonts). Even Kindle for Android isn’t using Caecilia yet.

Worst feature: I can’t get sideloading to work (despite separate Documents/MyDocuments folders) and no color selection.

Still, Barnes & Noble, while a little late, really came out swinging here.

  2. overall a nice app, but the account settings are amateurish – fields that require numbers take characters by default (zip code? phone number?). probably was never tested with an actual android phone!
