Barnes & Noble Nook Color Angry BirdsAn item posted on ZDNet earlier today alerted us to the fact that come tomorrow, November 4, Barnes & Noble will be slashing USD$20 off the cost of both its Nook Color and Nook Tablet devices.

“The tablet PC price wars continue to heat up,” according to ZDNet, “as Barnes & Noble lowers the cost on its older slates in preparation for the release of its new Nook HD models.”

From the article, here are the pricing details:

“Each of the 7-inch tablets will get $20 shaved off their former price tag. The Nook Color will now cost $139, while the 8GB Nook Tablet will now run $159 and the 16GB version will cost $179. The new 7-inch Nook HD will start at $199 when it arrives on November 8, while the 9-inch Nook HD+ will cost $269 (or $60 less than the similarly sized iPad Mini).”

As far as I’m concerned, this is both a fantastic time and a terrifying time to purchase a tablet. There are so many new devices being released these days, and prices are clearly continuing to drop as more and more upgrades of older models are released. That’s fantastic!

And yet it’s also a bit terrifying—for the frugal consumer, at least—because who really knows when the next big price drop will be announced? It’s tough to plunk down hundreds of dollars worth of very hard-earned money when the tablet you’ve got your eye on may very well be $20 or $30 cheaper in a month or two. Tech paralysis, I think we could accurately call it.

Then again, the decision to buy or not to buy is always significantly easier during the holiday season, thanks to the very American retail tradition known as Black Friday. This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, November 23—that’s less than three weeks away. If you happen to be suffering from a touch of tech paralysis yourself, you can at least rest assured that the deals announced on Black Friday will most likely be the best deals you’ll see for at least the next couple of months.

Speaking of which, we’d be hugely appreciative if you’d considered alerting us to any particularly good holiday season tech deals in your corner of the world (tablets and e-readers especially) as Black Friday approaches. If we manage to compile a decent enough list, we’ll consider editing them together into a single post.
