audibleThat guy from Breaking Bad is all the rage these days. Aside from being a brilliant meth chef/dealer on television, Bryan Cranston has got a dynamite speaking voice — though you probably already knew that. It’s not surprising then, to hear that the folks over at Playtone (powered by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman) asked him to voice the story of The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien.

As part of a partnership with Amazon company Audible, a special ‘Playtone Presents’ series of audiobooks, “The American Story as You’ve Never Heard It,” enrolls the help of other notable voices as well; director Ken Burns, Hanks himself, audiobook narrator extrodinaire Grover Gardner and other popular writers, voice actors and more.

Aside from Malcom in the Middle’s dad’s contribution, other titles include The Civil War: A Narrative by Shelby Foote, The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl. Robert Leckie’s Helmet for My Pillow and With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge are actually voiced by two actors, Joseph Mazzello and Mark Vietor, of the Hanks and Playtone production on HBO, The Pacific.

The specially priced audiobook series is going for $10.49 up to $48.95 or are free with an Audible subscription.
