Douglas Brode has published an ebook titled “Patsy,” which looks at the assassination of John F. Kennedy from a very different perspective. I previewed his book earlier this year at TeleRead, and with the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination coming up now, here’s an update.
Brode’s thesis is that Lee Harvey Oswald was a “patsy” — a fall guy — for a much deep conspiracy. To read his ”non-fiction narrative” of a novel is to relive the Kennedy assassination in a totally new way. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s what visionary writers are for: to push their visions far and wide.
When I asked Brode what motivated him to pen this book, on the 50th anniversary of JFK’s death, he told me: “What we all share, as an American community, is (and there is an irony here) one’s own individual memories of where he or she was at the moment when the news first reached you: The president has been shot. If you were alive at that time, of course. I realize many of your readers today were not alive then.”
Brode said that as a writer he felt that he knew within an hour of Kennedy’s assassination that someday — someday — he would write a book about it. He did. Fifty years later.
“I tried numerous times, but never felt that the moment was right,” he told me. “But last year, with the fiftieth anniversary closing in, I finally put all the pieces of the puzzle together to express my own unique perception of what may have happened.”

In a recent oped titled, “The Kennedy Assassination: A Third Possibility,” Brode writes that he thinks he found a new way to look at the events of that day in 1963.
Well, I am not a conspiracy nut and I have no idea what Brode is going on about, or even what his book is about, although I’ve read it and enjoyed it as entertainment.
If these things interest you, take a look at Brode’s ”third perspective” and see if it makes sense. He’s doing media tours now, and last year he was on the Dennis Miller Show on TV for an hour discussing the JFK conspiracy stuff.
Now’s the time to check his book out. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but with over 100 new books about the JFK conspiracy released just this year, think it over. I did.
