Drawing a comparison to Alaska Airlines’s adoption of iPads to replace pilot flight manuals, the New York Times is covering a North Carolina town’s decision to stop printing town commissioner meeting agenda packages in favor of sending them electronically to iPads.

In an interview with the New York Times, Cornelius, NC town manager Anthony Roberts explained that they see it as a method of saving time, taxpayer money, and trees—a typical meeting would have 20 copies of a 200-page agenda. Roberts expects the iPads to pay for themselves in overall cost savings over about a year and a half.
