image In the U.S. Navy? You can now buy e-books through a Navy e-commerce site. Alas, the e-book section is password-protected, but I’d welcome comments from any Navy folks who are reading us. Like the offerings? What do they consist of? Which titles are featured?

Contractor is eChapterOne, supplying 80,000 e-book titles—in Adobe, Palm and Microsoft.

Time for the Navy to encourage contractors to provide ePub-format books? And for the Navy itself and other branches of the military to use ePub? Remember, the same readers used for recreational reading could also be used for professional improvement and display of military documents, so, yes, the Navy should care about standards. A similar concept, of course, could apply to other branches of government and other nations’ militaries.
