Six of the early books by Stephen King are being re-issued as deluxe editions.
The novels – Carrie, Salem’s Lot, The Shining, Night Shift, The Stand and Pet Sematary – were released between 1974 and 1983 through Doubleday. The re-issued books will go through Cemetery Dance Publications with over-sized editions on heavy paper, according to The New York Times. The books will also have new artwork for the dust jackets with new introductions by King.
According to the report, the 40th anniversary edition of Carrie will include an essay by Tabitha King, six paintings by Tomislav Tikulin, and a reproduction of the telegram Doubleday sent King saying it would publish the book.
The Carrie special edition is due out in August with several different price tags.
The artist-signed edition is sold out, but King fans can still get two other editions for $225 (a different dust jacket by Tikulin and comes with a tray case) and $85, which comes with a slipcase.
The remaining books are scheduled to come out every six months.
As the focus tends to be on digital technology, there are still millions of readers who enjoy tangible objects. Special collectors’ editions are great ways to add value to books, but the way to do that is by giving the collectors/readers something they can’t get anywhere else.
The different editions are limited with the $225 edition having just 750 copies and the $85 edition will have 3,000 copies made. The signed sold out edition will have fewer than 60 copies.
