Sixteen free Harlequin novels: A Valentine for romance fans

imageHarlequin is releasing 16 free romance novels that you can enjoy on the iPhone or iPod Touch with Stanza---or on other gizmos through PDF, ePub, eReader or MS Reader. Download the Stanza books from within the program (screenshot), which is almost Kindle-easy. Use the second link for the other formats. I didn't see a Kindle mention, but I assume that format is coming.

About sixty years ago---I don't know the exact date---Harlequin started in the romance-novel business. And the anniversary is the official justification for the freebies. But what good timing in another way, since Valentine's Day so near!

From deadly kisses to speed dating

The titles, from every Harlequin series, range from Kiss Me Deadly to Speed Dating. Kiss, given a five star review on Amazon by Harriet Klausner, is about a vampire with a serious grudge against a witch---until he falls in love with her.

haarlequin60thHarlequin's benignly vampirish plan, of course, is to sink its teeth into you with the freebies, so you'll pay for others. Not so coincidentally, the company says the freebies are worth $60. What's more, Jane at Dear Author says they're DRM free. Way to go, Harlequin. I just wish that you'd ditch DRM in all other situations, replacing it perhaps with social DRM. There might be a bit more piracy---but a lot more revenue, without so many techno-hoops for romance fans to jump through. What's more, the fans could own their books for real. Even the most voracious romance readers have their faves they want to save.

A complete list of the freebies follows.
