One of Edinburgh‘s lovelier local libraries, Stockbridge Library in the central district of Stockbridge, is due to receive an artwork by Glasgow-based artist Rachel Barron as part of this year’s Love Your Library Campaign launched for Book Week Scotland.

“Book Week Scotland will shine a light on the place libraries occupy in communities,” explains the Scottish Book Trust article on the project. “Five large library artworks will be unveiled across Scotland during the week, with the aim of making the chosen libraries visible and valued in their local areas. The artworks will be inspired by a very special love letter to libraries, ‘Dear Library,’ written by best-selling author Jackie Kay.” Stockbridge Library is the only library in Edinburgh included in the program.

This is the second year that artworks have been commissioned as part of the campaign. “Scottish Book Trust is working with Pidgin Perfect, an award-winning, multi-disciplinary creative studio to deliver this programme of new artworks,” the materials explain. Rachel Barron’s own work is detailed here.

Book Week Scotland “is a week-long celebration of books and reading that takes place every November.” This year’s events will run from Monday 24th to Sunday 30th November.
