Like a creeping zombie that refuses to lie down and die, it appears that Fusion Garage is primed to claw its way out of the grave with another try at a tablet device. Liliputing reports that Fusion Garage has sent a device to the FCC for testing. Details are sparse, but it’s apparently tablet-shaped. This wasn’t entirely unexpected, given that the company said last year it had a new model planned for this year. All the same, it’s still a little surprising they’re actually going through with it.

Fusion Garage’s first device, the JooJoo, might as well have been named the “Boooo! Boooo!” for the lackluster reviews it gathered. About all it ever really had going for it was the publicity value of metaphorically slapping Michael Arrington of TechCrunch in the face mere days before the “Crunchpad” was scheduled to launch (and getting slapped right back with a lawsuit). When you got right down to it, reviewers agreed that the tablet was too slow and underpowered for regular use.

The device managed to grab a lot of attention nonetheless, back in the early days of the tablet when there wasn’t much competition around. (Attention was about all it got, though; reportedly it only ever received 90 pre-orders.) It’s hard to imagine that anybody will be too interested now what with the iPad 2 and the Nook Color and the Galaxy Tab about. You’d think Fusion Garage would be wise enough to quit while it was still ahead. Still, it might be amusing to watch it flop in the marketplace.
