Looking for free e-books for your e-reader? Books on the Knob is a great resource. I’m subscribed to the blog in Google Reader, and every day I receive at least five to 10 posts about free or bargain books.

Books on the Knob covers lots of different sites—not just Amazon—so whatever your reader of choice happens to be, you’ll be clued in on books with which to fill it.

The woman who runs the site has three main blogs: Books on the Knob, Christian Books on the Knob and Erotica & Hot Romance Books on the Knob. She split them out last year into separate sites so readers could get more of what they wanted, and less of what they didn’t.

She’ll also alert readers to Special Offers on Kindle (useful, since I don’t always remember to check), and store-wide sales. She’ll even point out noteworthy apps, music or audio on sale at Amazon.

All in all, an excellent resource for the voracious reader who doesn’t want to spend too much money to support the habit.

  1. Books on the Knob is a great blog and a wonderful resource! I’ve used it for years, but I just wish someone could explain the name to me.

If anyone wants free science fiction, I have 2 ebooks that are free (one only on Kindle & only for today, and one free pretty much everywhere). It’s all on the blog, so just click my name above to see details.

  2. Ha! You’re very welcome, Carmen. I didn’t know what it meant, either, and in fact I’d never heard of the site until Juli’s post came through this morning. I thought the name sounded vaguely creepy, so I dug around on the site a little to see if I could figure it out; I wanted to make sure we weren’t promoting some sort of extreme, hardcore mommy porn file sharing site! (I’m joking, Juli; I know you’re a pro!)

Anyway, there’s a section at the very bottom of the site’s ‘About Us’ page that more or less explains the genesis of the name. (And the site’s Twitter account is listed as being in East Tennessee.) Incidentally, is it just me, or is it maybe a little odd that this person runs one site about Christian books, and another about ‘erotica and hot romance’ books? Don’t get me wrong – I’m definitely not suggesting there’s anything wrong with that combination at all. In fact, I find it rather refreshing. Just a little surprising, maybe. But hey, more power to her, I say. She seems like a person who has her priorities in order, and that’s definitely a good thing in my book.

  3. I assumed she was just dividing it up because she didn’t see much overlap in the audiences. That is, the Christian fiction readers weren’t interested in anything else and possibly having erotica titles in their face did not encourage those folks to frequent Books on the Knob, anymore than the erotica folks wanted to have to browse Christian titles to find what they wanted. I agree it’s nice no one was left behind.

  4. Dan and Carmen, there are a lot of people out there who want both Christian titles and erotic romance. She used to lump them all together on the main blog, and some of her readers objected to those two categories, which is why she split them out. I never complained, but I applauded the decision. My Google Reader stream got a lot shorter, and I didn’t have to spend as much time double-checking. But I also applauded her decision to provide resources for people who wanted those titles.

And yes, the name of the blog could be suggestive, especially the erotica one. I’m just so used to it that I didn’t go there until I read the comments. 🙂
