According to The Bookseller the French Senate has legislation pending that will reduce VAT on ebooks from 19.6% to 5.5%. The reduction would cover only “unenriched” versions of print books. According to the article there is some question as to whether the provision will be passed as it may violate European law.
The budget minister, who is also against the legislation, has said that the government is working towards a consensus in the European Union on reducing VAT on ebooks.
