Young library user at computerHere from CNET and here and here from the foundation. The focus appears to be on machines and connections, not content.

Meanwhile, isn’t it interesting to see the contrast in approaches with the $100 laptop project? As grumpy as I can be about some aspects of OLPC, I myself appreciate the “bring home” approach for hardware.

So much learning takes places at home. We need appropriate computers in all places—home, school and library. School and library machines can include more capabilities than home machines and be used for p-book catalogs and other library and school library content, as well as face-to-face training. Of course, from Gates’s perspective, library computers presumably will disrupt the computer industry less than the linux-lovin’ $100 project potentially could. No ESP claimed. But who can ignore the obvious?
