Lukeman agentThere’s still plenty of (justifiable) debate over the need for literary agents in this post-disruption self-publishing age. Whatever your views on the value of agents, or the defensive posturing of certain senior representatives of the breed, though, you’d be a brave author or pundit to come out and claim that they conclusively have no use at all. So perhaps this Kindle Store freebie will be of some use to some of you out there.

Yes, How to Land (and Keep) a Literary Agent, by New York literary agent Noah Lukeman, President of Lukeman Literary Management Ltd., is now up for free on the Kindle Store. Free meaning down from a whole 99 cents is not exactly a gigantic saving. And some post-disruptionists might argue that a writer has better uses for their time than struggling to keep their agent. All the same, some of the topics covered in the book are likely to be useful to writers well beyond the acquisition process: “7 Ways to Protect Yourself in an Agency Agreement” sounds handy to know, for instance. So does “24 Free Resources for Researching Agents.” It’s also anything but the 36-page pamphlet style of short Kindle freebie giveaway, at 339 pages and 575 kb on the Kindle Store.

I have absolutely no independent basis for judging the value of this book, or of Lukeman himself as an agent. The Amazon book description is full of plaudits, but then what Amazon book description isn’t? Ditto the “About” section on his website. But anyway, for what it’s worth, for whoever it’s worth something to, there it is. It’ll cost you a whole 99 cents less than its original 99 cents cover price. Go for it.
