You’ve heard of pop-up books, right? Well, here’s a book that takes the same basic idea of a pop-up book in a new direction. Rather than having you pull a tab, this book lets the reader unfold the story step by step.

The Adventures of a Village is the work of artist Julie Stephen Chheng, and it lets you decide how to tell the story by choosing which section of the page to unfold. There are in fact a couple different stories in this one book. The village couple be attacked by a sea monster or invaded by aliens, and the reader gets to decide.

This is almost a Choose Your Own Adventure type of book, although it doesn’t have any words. Also, it’s limited by the number of  layers of folded paper that can be crammed into a thin book. That is naturally going to limit this idea to short picture stories, which shouldn’t be a problem.
