Thanks to a some hard work on the part of Epson and Amazon, Kindle Fire HDX owners are going to be a little more productive. This printer and screen tech manufacturer has worked with Amazon to roll out an update which lets owners of the Kindle Fire HDX and the Kindle Fire HD (2013) print to select Epson printers.

Epson announced on their blog that over 60 printer models now supported the Kindle Wireless Printing protocol:

The Amazon Kindle Fire can now print. But that’s just the beginning because the new Kindle Fire HD and HDX tablets are built for more than just fun; they are now made for productivity. A new wireless printing system integrated into the Fire OS 3.1 update allows users to find and print to nearby printers.  …

In addition to wireless printing, Amazon has also included the ability to preview Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. VPN support plus Email and Calendar syncing (Exchange) should make your company’s IT department a little happier. Together, all of these features should lead to more people bringing their Amazon tablets to work.

If you have a Kindle Fire HDX then you’ll need to install the latest update in order to get the new feature. Amazon is going to be rolling out the update  over the next few weeks, but if you don’t want to wait, you can download it now by following the instructions on the Kindle Fire Updates page.

And if you don’t have a Kindle Fire HDX tablet, don’t worry; you haven’t been left out. I don’t have a Kindle Fire HDX but I found a way to print to my wifi-equipped printer, and you can too.

What I did was search in the Amazon Appstore for the term “printer epson” (the brand of my printer). I found 6 free utility apps that supported wireless printing, and the second one, PrinterShare, worked with my printer. I can print documents, PDFs, webpages, and more.

It’s that simple.
