pirate.jpgMarilynn is a frequent commenter on the site, so I thought you’d like to hear her in person on Crazy Tuesday, a live blog done by romance author Rowena Cherry. Here’s the blurb:

Crazy Tuesday, March 2nd, 2pm Eastern : Launching “Authors Without A Yacht”

When a proud ebook pirate stated that greedy authors don’t need his help pay for their third yachts, a group of authors who can’t even afford a canoe formed the “Authors Without A Yacht” social networking groups to answer readers’ questions about copyright and to share where readers can legally buy ebooks at the best prices.

Literary agent Richard Curtis, EPIC president Brenna Lyons, Marilynn Byerly, and romance author Carly Carson will share ebook pirate horror stories with host Rowena Cherry.

The audience can ask questions via email and text messages during the live chat and the completed show will also be available.

  1. Interesting, I went to Authors without Yahts. I did notice comments about ebooks for sale on ebay without permission to sell from the publisher/author. Out of curiosity I went to ebay and found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/SET-OF-10-EBOOK-COLLECTIONS-ON-CD-BONUS_W0QQitemZ260552354854QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3caa216c26 and this one http://cgi.ebay.com/James-Patterson-Novels-EBOOKS-on-CD-Collection-51-Books_W0QQitemZ140374533007QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20aef9638f
Doesn’t seem to be legitmate to me as the authors haven’t been dead for 70 years. There also Nora Roberts, Dean Koontz, Catherine Coulter, Tanya Huff, JD Robb & Stephen King. Probably more but I got tired of looking.

One thing that bothered me was that to make a comment on Authors without Yahts, I had to give my email address. I couldn’t do it anonymously. I don’t give my email address out unless I can opt out of getting emails. Too many of these places are just trying to get a mailing list. I get enough spam now, thank you.

  2. There’s no such thing as a legal CD filled with books by contemporary writers with the possible exception of a few Baen promotional CDs, and they aren’t for resale.

These dang CDs are the bane of many authors’ lives because eBay won’t ban the sellers who just keep coming back.

If they haven’t already, I’ll suggest that AWaY mention that they won’t use the emails for any reason. The email request is there to stop most drive-by jerks from posting their insults as well as the spammers.

  3. The live chat is over, but copies of the chat are available at the site for anyone who is interested.

The chat started out slowly but a great many interesting topics were covered.

I also gave Teleread a few plugs.

Agent/publisher Richard Curtis also had many observations about why the publishing industry is or isn’t doing what it should to combat ebook piracy.

The chat is definitely worth a listen for those interested in copyright and ebook piracy.
