M-Edge has been getting cleverer and cleverer as they get older.  It’s inspiring to see how a small business that started at a kitchen table can develop into a market leader!

They sent me a sample of their new Trench Runner Jacket for the iPad 2.  It’s made of weathered cotton canvas, in olive drab or German grey, and has genuine leather and brass fittings.  Inspired, they say, by vintage military hardware.  The iPad clips into a plastic shell on the right hand side of the case and is held securely.

It has the usual ability to act as a stand.

And here are some shots of the front and the back (my camera flash washed out the color in the lower picture).  The case, however, does not have internal magnets that wake up or sleep the iPad.  When I asked about this they said: “We were using magnetic on/off buttons for a little while but found that they turned the device on and off when the case was held closed and wore out the battery.  Our cases tend to be more robust than say the Smart Cover, so it seems that the feature was more of a hindrance than an advantage.”

The case has a nice heft and feels really good in the hand.  I’m telling you, this thing is cool!!  It’s the only iPad case I’ve ever used that has caused people to stop me and ask me what it was and where I got it.  Neat!

You can find the case on the M-Edge site at $49.99 and given the quality of the leather and the brass fittings I think that’s a good price.

Next week the M-Edge Tech Runner Messenger Bag.
