"I’m a journalist, a teacher and an e-book fiend. I work as a French teacher at a K-3 private school. I use drama, music, puppets, props and all manner of tech in my job, and I love it. I enjoy moving between all the classes and having a relationship with each child in the school. Kids are hilarious, and I enjoy watching them grow and learn. My current device of choice for reading is my Amazon Kindle Touch, but I have owned or used devices by Sony, Kobo, Aluratek and others. I also read on my tablet devices using the Kindle app, and I enjoy synching between them, so that I’m always up to date no matter where I am or what I have with me."

  1. I’m calling BS on that Marvel story. No one else, not even PW, is reporting it, and this is the kind of story that would be picked up by the major tech blogs. Also, print is such a larger chunk of the market that the claim that Marvel would give it up doesn’t make any sense.

I’m waiting to hear back from Marvel, but at this point I think you’ve been had, Joanna.

  2. It may be a matter of interpretation. It basically just seems to be GoodeReader bringing up the same story they reported in December, that Marvel was stopping sales in bookstores. Marvel is continuing retail sales in comic stores, but the article doesn’t seem to mention that. Nor does it mention that comic sales in bookstores were such a small fraction of their overall retail sales that it made sense to concentrate on the comic stores where most physical copies sell.

  3. Surprised Nate can form at least a few coherent sentences giving his mental condition, yes i was told about you. Now your constant aggressive state simply makes sense, and i am sad that you never got the early childhood education you needed to be a productive member of society.

    • Nate and Michael, I’m aware you have issues with each other, and this is not the place to air them. Michael, Nate did make a good point about lack of corroboration in the article. When I go search for corroborating evidence, all I see are repeats of your article or other bloggers questioning the story.

  4. Nate is the one with the vendetta against me, i have always taken the high-road, but understanding his frame of mind now, his aggressive nature totally makes sense, and i feel sorry for him more then i have ire.

Marvel is implementing their end-game strategy right now. Phase 1 is abandoning bookstores, phase 2, which may take a bit of time, is abandoning print altogether and going digital. How many ebooks did Amazon sell last year?

  5. Given that you immediately went for insults and accusations, it’s kinda hard to believe that you prefer the high road, Michael.

And since you still haven’t offered any credible evidence to back up your claim, I’m still not wrong,

  6. Insults? The last 4 years you have been insulting me, my website and everything goodereader all the time. Do a quick search on your blog or mobile read on how you relish every opportunity to skewer me and goodereader. I used to think you just had a hardon for me, but apparently son, you have a condition.

  7. And do you see me bringing up any of those old issues here, Michael?

No, and that’s becasue a couple weeks ago I turned over a new leaf. I now only address the stories, and not the person telling them. You, on the other hand, went for insults and accusations. You still have not offered evidence to support your claim, but you have wasted our time with personal attacks.

  8. Perhaps I am reading too much into one of these links, but I cannot believe–that in 2014–publishing industry figures are still talking about the need to come up with a “digital game plan.”

Like many of my fellow indie writers I began hearing said phrase–and the like–pop up around “the Net” almost ten years ago, way back when the eBook industry was just beginning to get off the ground and geek forums were abuzz with what great invention the yet-living Jobs was going to come up with next. Seems to me that such moments were the right ones in which to foment about digital game plans. I know we did, as did many of our successful indie eBook publisher contacts.

Now, I understand changing one’s digital strategy, not to mention evolving with the times, but this is taking missing the bandwagon to a whole new level.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s taken the biggest bite of the eBook market… selling digital literature alongside bamboo cutting boards, VHS tapes, Blue Ray players and shoes.

“Waiter? I think I’ll have another shot of Irony.” Pause. “Make it two.”
