with-keyboardIn a Notion Ink blog post about the forthcoming Adam tablet, Rohan Shravan takes the time to brag on a couple of things about the Pixel Qi and Tegra device. He first mentions the speakers, which are supposedly the best speakers of any tablet device. But then he makes some impressive claims about the battery life.

The most power hogging elements on Adam are (in decreasing order) LCD, Wi-Fi, 3G, Speakers (in full power mode) and then CPU (Tegra). I am getting from more than 2 full days to minimum of 15 hours! I am thinking of posting an interactive chart where you all can fill in details of how you will use it and then get the usage value out! Tegra consumes nothing for Open GL so it’s definitely a paradise for Gamers. I have seldom seen it crossing its 60-70mW line and touching 200mW for heavy usage. Adam has 24Whr, and you are bound to be extremely happy with its battery performance.

If that proves accurate, that battery life will leave even the iPad’s ten hours in the dust. (At least for the Pixel Qi version—there will also be an LCD version with higher battery consumption.) Still not as good as the days-long battery life of e-ink readers, but definitely getting there. That will definitely be good for e-book reading.

He also notes that the Adam will have USB devices so that media can be watched from USB without having to transfer it from a PC into the device’s memory. (Presumably that will work for e-books, too.)
