Congrats to all of those people involved with Project Gutenberg on reaching the 40K title milestone!
With little fanfare, Project Gutenberg reached #40000 in its eBook series; Extinct Birds: an attempt to unite in one volume a short account of those birds which have become extinct in historical times: that is, within the last six or seven hundred years: to which are added a few which still exist, but are on the verge of extinction, by Walter Rothschild.
Extinct Birds covers globally extinct and rare birds as well as hypothetical extinct species which include bird taxa which existence are only based on written or oral reports or on paintings. The accounts of the extinct bird taxa are based on Rothschild’s lecture On extinct and vanishing birds published in the Proceedings of the 4th International Ornithological Congress 1905 in London.

Extinct Birds was produced by Chris Curnow, Keith Edkins and the Online Distributed Proofreading Team at www.pgdp.net, utilizing images generously made available by The Internet Archive.
As we post this item (July 8, 2012; 3pm EDST) there are now 40,168 titles in the Project Gutenberg eBook Library.

Project Gutenberg Self Publishing’s purpose is to create a cloud service for contemporary writers to share their works with readers.
This portal allows authors to share their works with our readers as well as allows readers to provide comments, reviews and feedback to the authors. Every eBooks has its own detail page with ratings and Wall for displaying reader comment.
There is no charge for using this service and registration is not required for reading or downloading the publications or comments. However, registration is required to upload a book or post a comment. All postings are monitored, and offensive or indecent postings will not be approved.

“Authors community” collection includes “A Welcome to U. S. A. Citizenship” from 1988. Other books posted by the same user on the “self publishing” site for “contemporary writers” are by that well-known contemporary, L. Frank Baum. In Esperanto. There’s no convenient filter for language (although you might be able to use search for that).
Blog is a mirror of the World Public Library one. I.e. same content, but different URL. Which is why it keeps on saying World Public Library and nothing about Gutenberg or self-publishing.

“Privacy policy” is actually general terms and conditions, e.g. starts off talking about copyright.
