Booktrade is reporting:
Gail Rebuck says that Random House has achieved an 800% year-on-year increase in ebook sales, describing 2010 as “a true tipping point” in the company’s digital publishing.
In her annual end-of-year letter to staff Rebuck described 2010 as “a rollercoaster year: quiet at the start but with a terrific build in recent weeks” – also acknowledging that the market is down on last year and that a question mark remains over consumer confidence and spending.
As well as the increase in digital sales Rebuck highlighted Random’s “cultural transformation” as the business works towards “a greater agility and the unlocking of further creativity across all of our companies”.
Congrats to Random House! And they did it without joining the Agency 5.
Lenne – RH is the only “big” publisher I’ll buy from, for that very reason.
Does anyone know how this compares to publishers who do use the agency model?
Any numbers ? 8 x 1,000 = 8,000 ……
