Dan Poynter’s Global Ebook Awards are now in the process of entering their third year. If you’re interested in nominating a title for the 2013 contest, you can do so now; the 2013 signup process began today, September 1. The submission deadline is January 15, 2013.

Dozens of books seem to take home a “Winner,” “Finalist” or “Nominated” title each year in multiple categories that range from “Best eBook Cover” and “Best eBook Trailer” to “Aviation Non-Fiction” and “Teen Literature Fiction.” Still, the contest’s winners are awarded a fairly impressive package of prizes, including a $99 e-book trailer, a chance at a one-year scholarship award for Dan Poynter’s Para Promotion Program, and six lessons on e-book publicity.

Incidentally, Dan Poynter has long been known as a pioneer in the self-publishing scene; click here and here to learn more about his career.

  1. Why post a press release for this scam? It costs $79 to enter the contest; the actual prizes are trifling (participation in various Dan Poynter programs, of dubious worth); the awards have no credibility in any literary/genre community. The website for the contest is come-on for self-publishers, promising them publicity if they pay up.

“Your ebook will benefit from this fabulous publicity system for just $79 per ebook, per category. Enter now.”

Dan Poynter seems to be avid self-promoter who has figured out yet another way to bilk self-publishers. You shouldn’t be helping him.
