The New York Times is one of the most well-known papers to feature a paywall. However, in honor of reaching 1 million digital subscribers, Poynter reports that the Times has elected to make 50 of its best-known stories from the last four years free to read for a few weeks.

The Times is asking people to respond with how its journalism has affected them, and will use the responses it gets to help it decide what to put in a second package to be released October 5.

The stories run the gamut of some of the biggest stories to hit the media over the last few years. While Poynter has its own list of the most important stories from the release, TeleRead readers will probably be most interested in the stories concerning two of the biggest purveyors of digital media: “The iEconomy” (actually not one but a series of stories on Apple) and last month’s “Inside Amazon: Wrestling Big Ideas in a Bruising Workplace”.
