Just to be 100 percent clear from the jump, the infuriating bit of news in this post doesn’t directly have anything at all to do with e-books or e-reading. But I’d guess that the majority of us here have ordered expensive electronic devices online in the past—devices that have to be shipped via FedEx or UPS or DHL.

And considering that the holiday season is now in full swing, who isn’t coming home from work each day to find a small mountain of brown cardboard boxes waiting on the stoop? (No one actually does their holiday shopping in stores anymore, right?)

But I digress. On Gizmodo today, Jamie Conliffe tells the story of a thieving UPS delivery guy from Houston, Texas, who was caught on camera walking away with an iPad mini that had been left on a homeowner’s porch earlier that morning … by FedEx!

According to a recent news report from KHOU in Houston, the homeowner in question had been smart enough to install an outdoor turret dome camera above his porch three years ago. (That’s it, in the photo above). If not for the camera, you can be assured the iPad would have never been replaced.

According to KHOU, the victim of the theft “contacted UPS [after watching a recorded version of the crime] and felt [he was] getting the run-around at first, so [he] posted [the] video on YouTube, for the whole world to see.”

No surprise here—it was only after the video was uploaded to the Internet that UPS decided to change its tune. Check out the video for yourself, below.
