macosstartupHere’s another thing you can do with a Nook Simple Touch: run Mac OS 7 on it. Enterprising hardware hackers have managed to get the Nook e-ink reader to boot both System 7 and System 7.5.

Of course, it’s not really usable for real computing, since there isn’t an easy way to add a keyboard and mouse to the device, but as a proof of what can be done it’s certainly amusing. And it also reminds me how powerful the embedded devices we buy now are now. That e-ink e-reader is quite capable of emulating what used to be a full-fledged computer.
