A number of tech news sites and blogs today are mentioning that they’ve been invited to an Amazon press event on Wednesday, September 28th. It’s a pretty obvious assumption that this event will be introducing the much-rumored color Kindle device (though there are other rumors going around as well of touch-based or sub-$100 devices).

Whatever it is, it will probably be very interesting, and it’s not impossible that it could bring yet another sea change to the e-book (and other digital content) market. I’ll be looking forward to finding out exactly what it is.

  1. While I hope it is a tablet announcement with delivery date it would not be surprising if it is something else. Don’t forget there have been rumors of ebook subscriptions, magazine access improvements, etc. There is also the upcoming release of the Harry Potter ebooks. This may only be a prelude to a bigger announcement later. Well have to wait and see.

  2. Signe – I really don’t know where you get that information. The iPad is used by a huge number of it’s owners to read eBooks.

I find this Kindle device quite confusing, as it is discussed and rumoured.

It will be too powerful and expensive to appeal simply to eBook readers who simply don’t need that kind of expense or power. And if it is to be priced at the level being rumoured, then it has no chance of being powerful enough to put a dent in the iPad.
