We’ve all known that Google will be opening its own ebook store, but they have been cagey about the date. Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that they expect to open their store in late June or July.
Google will allow book retailers, and even independent bookstores, to sell Google Editions on their own sites. However, Google is evidently still trying to decide whether to set the retail price itself or let the publishers do so.
As I remember hearing at a Google presentation, Google will be adopting a “cloud” model so that the purchased book will be readable on any device through a browser interface and all the buyer will need is a Google account to read it.
Apparently Googles e-books are going to be DRM free… Maybe downloadable? Anybody with a hint on that?
If I can’t download it and read it on a non-connected device, I don’t want it and won’t be spending any money on it.
