Free software is terrific, but most creators want to be paid one way or another–whether in dollars or glory. Did Phil “PKZIP” Katz rip off System Enhancement Associates, aka SEA? On the eBook Community list, Bill Janssen has just pointed to some very ugly accusations against Katz, who, alas, is not alive to defend himself. Check out some text and a WMV-format documentary. Opinions? If the accusations are true, the Wikipedia item on Katz needs to be longer and include SEA’s side. Likewise OpenReader will want to check out the legal and ethical situation regarding PKZIP-related technology.
