Well, it’s been a good run, but it’s also time to move on.  According to the WordPress back end I’ve done 6,092 posts,  My first post was on July 9, 2007  and my first comment was on September 9, 2006.  The post was a review of the new, industry-changing Sony Reader and the comment was on using a Palm TX as an ereader.

I’d like to thank all our readers and especially those who have been regular commenters and have helped make TeleRead into a community.  I would also like to thank those individuals who have let me reprint posts from their own blogs.  I’m not going to mention any names because I’d be sure to forget someone and that wouldn’t be fair.

Also those who have been along for the ride should be acknowledged heartily:  Chris Meadows and Joanna.  Both have made a huge contribution.

And thanks to TeleRead’s owners, NAPCO, who have allowed me complete editorial freedom.

Finally, thanks to David Rothman who founded TeleRead and “hired me on” as a contributor.  He also taught me the importance of writing a good headline!

No new gig, for now.  I need to do my second cross-country motorcycle trip and then we’ll see what happens.

Regards,

Paul

  1. Well, you went out in style, Paul – with that wonderful Nexus 7 writeup. If your travels ever take you through Northern Virginia, look up me. Thank you for the many hours you devoted to TeleRead, and especially for keeping it alive after my heart attack.

    Happy riding and writing,
    David

  2. When you take a break from riding those twisty mountain passes you can park on a scenic outlook, pull your book library out of your pocket and enjoy a good read. Remember to ponder where the term “TeleRead” came from. Enjoy your life and keep the shiny side up.

  3. Thanks for the great work, Paul, and kudos to David Rothman for founding Teleread. When I first starting working on the Smashwords business plan in 2005, Teleread was my primary source for market research and publisher best (and worst) practices, and under your leadership it has continued to be an important resource for me. Safe travels! If your wheels bring you through Silicon Valley, drop me an email and we’ll hook up.

    Thanks, Paul!

  4. Have a great time!
I truly believe you earn your free time, after all you have given to your readers. Through following Teleread I always felt fully informed about what was going on in the world of digital publishing and reading.

    Thanks for that.

  5. I have been an avid reader of Teleread and check your email update first thing every morning in office. You will be terribly missed and leave rather large shoes to fill….. I hope you start a personal blog after your cross-country bike trip…. best regards from India

  6. Paul, I’m with Shorav. After you get back from your 2nd amazing cross-country trip I hope we can read you on a blog where you’ll keep us up to date on what you’re seeing and thinking on the whole scene. Will miss you here.

  7. Howard & Joanna: There is indeed a new editor! Stay tuned for his introductory post, which is scheduled to run this Monday morning (July 30). In the meantime, please feel free to send anything you’d like to: deldridge at napco.com.
