Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, Black FridayJon Cog of the Me and My Kindle blog gave us a very convenient heads-up yesterday about Amazon’s Black Friday plans for the Kindle Fire. As he reports on his site:

Amazon’s retail-store partners, like Best Buy, OfficeMax, Staples, or Office Depot, [are] reportedly not allowed to lower the actual price of the [Kindle Fire], but they’re doing the next best thing. If you purchase a Kindle Fire tablet, they’ll just give you some money back in the form of a gift card!

Check out Jon’s post for details on the sales being offered by the four brick-and-mortar retailers mentioned above. Of course, it’s worth bearing in mind that since you’ll probably need to stand in a very long line—in cold winter weather, no less—to take advantage of these deals, they may not actually be quite as attractive in reality as they appear in this morning’s newspaper ads.

To those of you planning to brave the unruly Black Friday crowds regardless: Please be safe, please remember your manners, and please don’t forget how many adrenaline-surged shoppers have been killed or seriously injured in the midst of this madness. Seriously: Your lives are worth so much more than a $25 Walmart coupon, people.

Also worth keeping in mind: Amazon has been known to offer even better free-gift-card flash sales than its retail partners during busy shopping periods. So if it is a Kindle Fire you’re after, take a few minutes to poke around online before you head out the door tomorrow.

Visual Land Prestige 7-inch tablet, Black Friday dealsUpdate: As TeleRead reporter Chris Meadows pointed out in his recently-published Tablet Buyer’s Thinking Guide (which, by the way, is a must-read for those of you who don’t fully understand the differences between the dozens of tablets on the market), Best Buy is offering the 7-inch Visual Land Prestige tablet (pictured at right) for US$79.99 as an online-only Black Friday deal. (Best Buy’s list price for the tablet is US$149.99, so this is nearly a half-off sale.)

If you’re in the market for a truly affordable refurbished device, BestBuy.com will probably be worth checking from time to time throughout the next few days. As of this writing, in fact, a refurbished Pandigital Novel e-reader with a 7-inch LCD touch screen is going for just US$29.99  (list price US$129.99) at the Best Buy online store. (Not that we’re actually suggesting you buy the thing—the Pandigital Novel is said to be frustratingly sluggish and slow—but similarly low-priced deals may pop up in the very near future.)

  1. The Kindle Fire has really made my life a lot easier. I’m absolutely in LOVE with this thing! It is very user friendly so I didn’t have to go searching the internet for tutorials. Here’s the one I got on Amazon http://amzn.to/QdkqCN. If you’re looking to get a tablet I’d recommend the Kindle Fire over the other tablets, it really blows them away. 🙂
