ImagePlastic Logic‘s big screened Amazon-killer won’t be out until early 2010, as noted here earlier.

But in a video a Plastic Logic marketing VP assures us that among other things:

  • The device will be and competitively priced. So does that mean well under $400? maybe even less than $300? See earlier video for a little hint of pricing in the $300 rnage, as well as a reference to a 2010 release.
  • Plastic Logic will seek e-books and content from a number of sources—a fact listed among PL’s advantages over closed machines such as the Kindle. Hint, hint, Amazon. Jeff Bezos and friends, in expelling PDF and Microsoft Reader formats from Amazon, seems to be moving in just the opposite directions. Maybe he’d better rethink his strategy.
  • The device will can read ePub and PDF among other formats and will use an open business model that could include ad-related varieties.

What I really like about Plastic Logic is the all-in-one approach—focused on business documents but also including books and newspapers. I see some interesting opportunities for publishers and e-stores to team up with Plastic Logic and large companies to offer books as perks for employees. What a way to help upgrade the work force.

Meanwhile I’d be curious to know what technological challenges may be delaying the introduction of the Plastic Logic reader, which should have been out by now.
