OpenReader and TeleRead, anyone? OpenReader would standardize e-book formats and DRM (for publishers insisting on it!) and let you own e-books for real. TeleRead, dating back to the early ’90s, proposes a well-stocked national digital library system with provisions for compensating copyright holders.
