Number of complaints against domains associated with various registration serviceseNom’s sleaze quotient: eNom is begging for a good look by FTC and ICANN. It may well be Trouble Central on various spam and scam matters. Notice the table to the left? Among registration services, eNom by far is the worst offender on the “Spamvertised Domains” list from AbuseButler. The numbers apparently reflect active complaints against domains linked to the registrars (or something similar). No, eNom isn’t the biggest registrar, period–just the “third largest domain name registrar worldwide.” Clearly its SQ (sleaze quotient) in the spam world is off the charts.

Update on the spam attack on this blog from eNom-linked villain: I still haven’t gotten a word from eNom about the massive spam attack still underway on this TeleRead blog from the persistent Gazit Bingaman, supposedly Cyprus-based, who’s registered via an eNom affiliate. A lesson here? Time to start boycotting eNom? It isn’t the registration per se that infuriates me most of all–rather, eNom’s arrogant silence. If there’s an explanation, let’s hear it. Number of comment spams I’ve had to filter from Gazit within past 24 hours: more than 615.

Tip: Here is a form for reporting inaccurate domain registrations.

Update, 9:01 a.m.: I see that eNom’s name has already become familiar at the FTC as a result of affiliate-related troubles. In fact, it’s still serving Domain Registry of America, the outfit that the FTC cited for misleading advertising that encouraged people to switch domain registrations unnecessarily. Meanwhile, in a different matter, eNom joined other registration services in portraying itself as “legtimate.” If so, why the silence on Bingaman? Is he or isn’t he at the physical address that eNom lists? As best I can determine, the phone number doesn’t work.
