The Banned Book trading cards are back at the Lawrence (KS.) Public Library for Banned Books Week.

Last year’s cards were a hit with coverage given to the library’s project from national outlets such as The Huffington Post. This year’s cards were given out starting on Sunday with one card each day this week.

This year’s books feature titles such as The Catcher in the Rye, Leaves of Grass and Charlotte’s Web.

Throughout history books have been banned for various reasons (and the Invisible Man was recently banned from a South Carolina school district) such as Satanism, talking animals, rape topics and obscene language.

After the week is over, any remaining cards will be sold at the library and online at www.lawrence.lib.ks.us.
