Comparatively speaking, it requires more effort to persuade a reader to invest TIME in an e-book than MONEY.

TeleRead.com is now a static archival site, but we're very much alive at TeleRead.org. Big thanks to Nate Hoffelder of The-Digital-Reader.com, who teamed up on the preservation project with ReclaimHosting.com.
Interesting point, Robert. I will point out one fact which doesn’t disprove your argument but should, at least, be interesting. At BooksForABuck.com, I offer a small number of books at a permanent price of $1 as well as a larger number of books with prices in the $3.99 range. Much of my business is repeat business and new customers will almost always start with one of the books offered at $1. Admittedly, I might have already convinced them to spend time and the $1 or $3.99 choice might merely be given they’d already decided to buy, but there is certainly a price sensitivity here.
