While 92 percent of kids 5-17 read for pleasure, just 31 percent read each day. So says a survey summed up in The Book Standard. It quotes an expert: “We found that not only do parents need to be reading role models, but that they must play a key role in helping their older children select books that capture their imagination and interest.”

Exactly! Alas, DRM can get in the way–by limiting the number of copies of store-bought or library-borrowed books that families can read at one time.
