Well, as of last night I got my Fios Quantum 150 service installed. Boy, what a difference! Most web pages load so fast that I can’t even time them with a stopwatch.
Here is a screenshot from speedtest.net. Of course, the speed varies depending on what server you are connecting to and the state of the internet at the time of the test, so this type of stuff should only be taken as a guide, not as a gospel.
Aside from the speedy site loading, video sites running in a browser are much improved over my 35Mbps service. I had always seen some stuttering on Netflix and Crunchyroll, but now they are as smooth as silk.
For most people the extra $35/month probably wouldn’t be worth it, but I spend so much time on the computer that it is worth every penny to me.
Hey Paul .. we can see the grin on your face from here 🙂 Congrats !
Is that just a tier speed upgrade — ie you were already on Verizon FiOS — or did you change providers as well?
I was already on FIOS and had their 35/35 plan.
Not available in metro Chicago area as far as I know 🙁 It sounds great!
Thanks for the heads-up on the new speed options! Verizon hadn’t bothered sending me any promo material. Discovered that I could upgrade my 35/35 to 75/35 for only $5 more than I was already paying, so I figured why not. The 150/65 package is definitely tempting though. I back up multi-gig Photoshop files regularly, so faster upstream would be nice. Wish I could flip their offering around and get 150 on the uploads. I really miss the 100/100 setup I had in Japan.
