image The backlit JetBook is the newest e-book gizmo—yes, you read that right: no E Ink, apparently, which could delight LCD fans. The bad news is that so far I can’t find information on the formats offered, or the exact screen res. Also, the price of $350 for an LCD machine doesn’t exactly make my pulse race. Am I missing something?

Here’s part of the ballyhoo, verbatim, from ECTACO:

  • Easy to read, high-resolution, 5-inch grayscale display
  • Palm-sized housing
  • Extensive bi-lingual Russian <-> English, Polish <-> English, and English monolingual translating dictionaries pre-loaded
  • Support for e-Book contents in Russian, Polish, English, Spanish and other popular languages
  • Turn pages automatically and add bookmarks
  • View text to nearly 180°
  • Choice of font and size
  • Read in either portrait or landscape modes
  • Built-in MP3 player for background playback
  • SD card slot
  • Internal Li-ion polymer battery
