For anyone looking for a highly pocketable ereader, Woot is selling a refurbished 8GB iPod Touch (current generation) for $170.  Aside from the locked-in iBookstore, the Touch can use apps for the Kindle, Nook, Kobo and others as an excellent ereader.  I read on my iPhone all the time and it shares the same Retina display as the Touch

  1. That does seem like a pretty good deal. Apple’s own refurbished price for this model is $199. Though you can get a last (3rd)-gen 8-gig for $149, or a last-gen 32-gig for $179, if your interest runs more to music than a retina display and facetime camera.

I’m thinking I’ll probably wait for the 5th generation to come out this fall and drive the 4th-gen prices down.

  2. Let’s not forget the fact that one can move unencumbered ePub documents onto an iPod touch (or any iOS device) using file sharing, sideloading (into iTunes.app) and via the web using Safari which offers to move the book to Stanza, iBooks or other installed apps.
