bebook-club-front.gifThe Bookseller is quoting Peter Zieleman, BeBook’s marketing director as using this phrase. He goes on to say:

“After extensive market research it became crystal clear that there’s a strong demand for an affordable reader with all the popular features. We combined just that: all the features users expect from an e-reader, at just a fraction of the cost!

“It is also possible to expand the internal memory on the BeBook Club just by using the SD card expansion slot. Besides all the technical features, the BeBook club has a distinguished and fashionable design.”

The price hasn’t been released, but the unit should be available in October. According to the Club’s web page it can do 12,000 page turns or over 25 hours of music playback on one battery charge. It will support ePub, with and without Adobe DRM, and PDF as well as other formats including non-DRM Mobipocket. More info on the unit at its web page here.

  1. In the UK they’ll need to be significantly less than the £109 (including VAT & delivery) Kindle 3 wifi price.

That they haven’t announced a price for something that’s supposed to be available in October is a bit concerning.

Hmm… a basic reader with the old visiplex display, no wireless, no keyboard for notes.

£49.99 (including VAT & delivery) would be a compelling price. Anything over £90 definitely loses to the Kindle 3 wifi.

I can’t see them managing the under £50 price. Perhaps £80? It’s fun to try to guess.

There are a couple of e-readers in the U.S. currently priced under $100 (£65) or scheduled to be at that price in October. So I’m assuming this one will be less than that. It is fun to guess.

OTOH, if they only mean inexpensive compared to the previous Neo model that could mean pretty much any price.
