blizzard The Firefox browser is like a charming, lovable friend who eats too much at dinner—well, in this case too much memory. At least on my machine Firefox comes across as a real memory-hog. But perhaps some relief is on the way, if you go by Christopher Blizzard‘s blog. See details here.

An aside: Check out the just-given Bizzard link. That’s an incredible bio, complete with Red Hat and OLPC connections—not bad for a high-school dropout with a GED. Blizzard has even helped to develop the XO’s Sugar interface.

Related: Firefox/e-book connection would advance the .epub standard—and help readers and publishers alike. Plus, Is Firefox 2.0 crashing more often on your machine than earlier versions did? I’m running 2.0.0.9 on an HP Pavilion and continue to be in Crash City. Perhaps there are cures. But a good browser should just work.

Why I stick with Firefox: Great feature set and a good interface. Also highly customizable and open source. Lots of plug-ins, too.

  1. I get freezes. It won’t close, the tabs won’t tab. Drives me absolutely crazy!!! I have to call up Task Manager repeatedly sometimes to get it to wake up. At times, I had to kill the Firefox process and send my nice dendritic collection of open sites (many not bookmarked!) to Electron Hell. ARGH. But I’d still rather use Fox over MSIE or (kill me!) Opera. Apple still needs to work on Safari.
