According to a KPMG survey, the Bookseller reports, 4% of the British population has read an ebook. The bad news, however, is that 70% spent nothing on the book. In further figures, nineteen percent spent up to £5 and 7% spent between £5-£25 for their ebook.
The survey also found that 68% of respondents said they had read a traditional book in the last month, 39% of of Britishers spent up to £10 on books last month and 13% spent between £10-£25.
I wonder what sort of books the 70% who paid nothing were reading – promotional, classics, pirated? It’s a figure that certainly needs some more explanation. If anyone comes across the actual study please let us know.
“The survey also found that 68% of respondents said they had read a traditional book in the last month”
Where did they get those respondents from? Looking at this figure it must’ve been taken from some book lovers club or something.
That figure sounds about in line with other surveys I’ve seen. People read a lot more in the UK than they do in the US.
